Home Theater Consumer Electronics Stores and Home Theater Shack Blog are most recent finished online projects.
The first one is basically a new landing page of already existing site. The customer needed to have this new page for SEO purposes. They wanted the page to be very straightforward as far as showcasing what products do they have.
The blog is simply another way to display most active contents out of the site's forum through RSS feeds. It is created so that customers are easily updated on areas they are most interested in.
Design and implementation are my scope in these two websites which paid me almost a grand. I had a great time working with the owner of these site as they are very accommodating, easy to work with and are always there to give the support needed as I progress on the projects.

What is RSS? RSS, an acronym for Rich Site Summary, is a text file following a specific standard in formatting to deliver LIVE web content. RSS is widely utilized by news sites, blogs and other online content publishers to feed content to their human readers through RSS readers or parsers.
How is RSS built, distributed and consumed?
1. Content publisher build the RSS
2. The link to the RSS is made public
3. RSS consumers may subscribe to the feed through online feed readers. Website developers may write their own RSS readers or parsers to display the content into a web page

Do you need a custom PHP RSS builder or PHP RSS reader?
I am offering my services in both writing a custom PHP RSS builder and writing custom PHP RSS reader. Email me at jnl [dot] pagobo [at] gmail [dot] com
I had this experience in the past where I came across a project I really wanted to take. I was so convinced I had what it takes to deliver it on time and deliver it with excellent quality. Of course, not to mention, the budget was interesting.
I placed by competitive bid on that project (it was actually 3rd from the highest bid) hoping that I will be awarded the project. With my bid in, I went on to make some quick samples, compiled a few related projects and sent these to the employer. I got no reply the following day (the project was still opened with more bids coming in). I sent another message to the employer not realizing that I became very aggressive already.
After a couple more days, the employer responded, 'your bid was interesting and I could have awarded you the project but I don't like working with aggressive people. Sorry, I have to pick someone else'.
I learned my lesson. One or two messages should be sufficient. Wait for a reply before sending another message (when the situation asks for it). Otherwise, leave everything to the employer. After all, no matter how good you are, showing some kick-ass portfolio won't count much; final decision is still theirs.
Provide what you can, convince them that you can and that you are the person to hire but NEVER pressure them with your aggressiveness or you are most likely to fail.

Let us have a simple round of CSS tutorial this time.
CSS 'float' property tells the element whether it should be floated to the right, left or not at all.
Take note:
- When element is absolutely positioned, 'float' property is ignored
- When 'float' property is omitted (not specified), default is NOT FLOATED hence the element is where it occurs in the content (following a left to right ordering)
A closer look at the 'float' property values:
left - the element floats to the left
right - the element floats to the right
none - is the default value (there is really no need to specify this) - the element is not floated
inherit - the float property of the element uses the value of the parent's float property
Some scenarios...
You want an element, say a div which is the outermost element in a web page and you want this div to be centered on the page. CSS 'float' property has no 'center' or 'middle' value. How can the div be centered?
- You will need to use another CSS property, 'margin' and give it a value 'auto' so you will have a CSS declaration: div { margin: auto; }
You want to have 3 columns (3 divs) inside your parent div. The first div to be a left sidebar, the second div to be the centered - main column and the 3rd (last) div to be the right sidebar.
CSS 'float' property comes into play now.
- First div: div.leftsidebar { float: left; width:20%; }
- second div: div.maincolumn { margin:auto; width:60%; }
- 3rd div: div.rightsidebar { float: right; width:20% }
Hope this helps.

Link building is a process of acquiring inbound links – links pointing to your web site. More inbound links, more visitors to your website.
How does link building goes?
You use some selected keywords to be the link anchor text. You will have to point this link to your website, hence the term “inbound link”. A simple example is this: Freelancers Guide Online (the keywords: Freelancers Guide Online is used as anchor text for the link to this website). You would find sites relevant to your website and place these inbound links. This is the typical link building process.
One way link building vs. reciprocal link building
With one way link building, you only have to worry about inbound links – links to your website. Mostly, this kind of link building is PAID. You will have to pay for each link or total number of links pointing to your website. Reciprocal link building on the other hand is mostly free since those websites with your links in requires that you link back to them – reciprocal links or outbound links.
Make money in link building
I’ve been into both. I have provided link building services and get paid for it. I also have tried hiring someone to do link building for this website.
I was hired by ‘QuarterMaster’ of Freelancer.com to do a link building for its ‘GAFcash Freelance Advertising Units’ where I had to make 50 inbound links. I also have hired someone to have inbound links to this website in related websites with page rank of 2 or above.
Linking is definitely not a difficult job. In most cases, you will be given the kind of websites you will need to put inbound links into. Also, you will be provided with a set of keywords to use as link anchors. Though, the volume can be overwhelming especially if you will be asked to put inbound links into 100 or more sites. Imagine the effort you will have to put into it to complete the job. Needless to day, it calls for some patience and determination to get the job done.
How much can one earn from link building?
No standard rates. Some employers can afford $250 or $500 or 50 to 100 links while others are very conservative with their budget and pays around $50 to $100 for 25 links or so. Pricing is always settled between the employer and the freelancer.

A few weeks ago, I almost fell to this 'Currency Exchange Job' scam. This could have made me $300 more broke. Beware! Read on…
This 'Currency Exchange Job' was posted on a legit freelancing site. I bid on it and I was immediately hired to do the job.
THE JOB:
They will have to utilize my Paypal account to accept payments from their customers. Withdraw the money into my local bank account and have it sent to them via Western Union. Their reason: they could not accept Paypal payments as Paypal does not allow money withdrawals to their country (Ukraine).
I went through a 'test transaction'. A guy (from nowhere) sent $300+ into my Paypal account. I was then told to withdraw this money into my local bank then have it sent to them via Western Union after taking my commission of $20. Yes, $20-commission every transaction.
While waiting for the money to be credited into my bank account (usually 2-4 business days), I was alerted by Paypal that that payment of $300+ was refunded after that guy complained to Paypal that it was not authorized! (Hmmm, was his credit card hacked?)
My account ended up having negative balance. Thanks God, the money is yet to be credited into my bank account! Had it come first and I sent it to those crooked people, I could have been $300+ broke.
I am suspecting that the guy who sent money into my Paypal account could have been the same guy who gave me the Job.
THE SCHEME:
He sends money to the Paypal account and then later on, complains to Paypal that it was not legit. Paypal will issue refund. He gets his money back and get more from the victim!
Well, in my case, they failed on TIMING as I still have the money when the refund was made.
Target victims are those with verified Paypal accounts but are not under any Merchant Protections that Paypal has for its users. Being not under any merchant protection, Paypal can initiate refund immediately.
On top of all and any projects on the side (Alumni of the Sisters of Mary School Inc, Brothers of Christ website, Fr. Al's Children Foundation Inc and my blog - Freelancers Journal) is the development of The Sisters of Mary Schools Philippines official website.
Sisters of Mary School has 4 campuses in the Philippines: Biga campus for girls and Adlas campus for boys, both in Silang Cavite Philippines; Talisay campus for girls and Minglanilla campus for boys, both in Cebu Philippines.
A group of graduates pledged donations to cover the development cost. (My bad, couldn't afford to give all of my services for FREE. I'm lucky enough to have understanding alumni)
The development of the website may take me March till July so it can be fully launched on the Silver Anniversary of the school on August 2010.
